Transformations, with Jeffrey Canton (Online)

This course offers participants techniques to take a story based on a transformative personal experience, and to craft it into a polished performance piece. The four-week interactive class offers an opportunity for participants to take an anecdote or memory and learn how to shape it and give it the power it deserves. The course will end with a final concert where participants will share their stories with one another and also their invited guests.

PREREQUISITE: Transformations is intended for those who have some storytelling experience. Others who would like to take the course, should first contact the instructor at jeffrey_canton@yahoo.com.

About Jeffrey Canton:

Jeffrey Canton has been telling stories for more than three decades and has been an active participant in Toronto’s storytelling community. Since 1997, he’s been a member of Queers in Your Ears, Toronto’s oldest LGBTQ storytelling collective and has told at the Toronto Storytelling Festival, the National Library of Canada and the British Library. He won the Alice Kane Award in 2019. As well as teaching “Transformations” at Storytelling Toronto, Jeffrey has been involved in mentoring new storytellers for the Human Rights based organization JAYU and, with Rico Rodriguez, working on an online exhibition celebrating Queers in Your Ears 25th anniversary at The ArQuives.
