Diabo
Monique Diabo is of Mohawk and Taino descent, originally from the Mohawk community of Kahnawake, Quebec. She spent much of her life in the Plains Cree, Treaty 6 territory of Kehewin Cree Nation in central Alberta. She holds degrees in Women's Studies, Political Sciences and Indigenous Governance. Monique is an accomplished multi-disciplinary artist; actor, visual artist, singer, dancer and choreographer, which has provided her with the opportunity to tour nationally and internationally with numerous performing arts companies.
She recognizes the importance of imbedding Indigenous pedagogy into all facets of life; to continue the vital work of closing gaps, removing barriers, supporting Indigenous culture, and building relationships with Indigenous and non-Indigenous people, to ensure spaces and services are inclusive, diverse and trauma informed. She strives to cultivate equitable and transformative spaces; free of shame and blame.
