Vijaya Agrawal grew up in India and remembers hearing traditional tales from her mother and grandmother, and life stories from her father. She started telling stories herself once she had children and attended the Parent-Child Mother Goose Program. Now she is a teller and teacher at the PCMGP and encourages other parents to find their singing and storytelling voices too, by telling to their own children at home. As a storyteller, Vijaya draws from the rich oral traditions of India and tells for children and adults at storytelling events, at the Story Tent, at the Toronto Storytelling festival and in her own extended family. At the festival she will share one of her favourite Indian stories, passed down to her through her family, and featuring clever women and the gifts of nature.
