The Stories of Little Jamaica

This FREE Story Circle is intended for seniors, however, all ages are welcome to come and enjoy food, hear and share stories, and win prizes. You all will have a chance to meet Rita Cox on Oct 6! Jan Blake, a UK storyteller, will also give an unforgettable performance virtually on September 29. 

This is a City of Toronto Cultural Hotspot SPARK Project, presented in association with Storytelling Toronto, The Toronto Public Library, and The Cipher Project. A great opportunity to meet new people and collect new stories!

Host and Anansi storyteller, Kesha Christie, will engage community elders in a nostalgic walk down memory lane to explore the collective experience of what it was like growing up in the Caribbean, where the practice of storytelling was commonplace. Participants will also have the opportunity to celebrate one of Jamaica’s most beloved national treasures, Miss Lou. All are welcome.

In this final story circle, host Kesha Christie will engage participants in a vibrant story exchange. Order of Canada Recipient, Rita Cox of the Toronto Public Library’s  Rita Cox Black Heritage and Caribbean Collection will also make an appearance in recognition of the 50 year anniversary of the collection and the largest of its kind in North America. We hope you will join us for this rare opportunity and program finale!
