Listeners old and new filled the Palmerston Library theatre on October 24 for the second instalment of STT's Story Pillars series. October's "Double Header" featured two tellers sharing tales from Africa and the Caribbean. Kesha Christie, the event's curator, kicked the evening off weaving Anansi stories, memories from childhood, and audience participation into a meditation on stories that bring us home. The second part of the evening featured Ugonma Ekeanyanwu presenting the story of her namesake Ugomma, a wise young maiden who wins a contest to visit the Queen Mother by displaying kindness. Accompanied by the multi-talented Amarachi Ukwu Fasesin, who sang, danced, and drummed, Ugonma had the audience singing along in Igbo about how Ugomma was the prettiest - and learning how true beauty comes from within.

More Story Pillar events are coming up in November and December!
